2005 recycling rates around the world had the United States at 32%, Britain at 27%, while Austria and the Netherlands were in the 60% range.

Britain has more than doubled its rate in the past 3 years. San Francisco leads all of the US, and possibly world, at 69% recycling.
Recycling in Canada tend to be talked about in terms of kg per capita rather than percentage, probably because the former can be more reliably counted among the waste disposed rather than requiring an estimate of that and how much might have been disposed to obtain a percentage.
